Remembrance Sunday Parade Service on November 9th at 10:30am we shall, as is our tradition, gather outside for a short service around the War Memorial, before commencing our service inside at about 10:40 am. We will have two minutes silence at 11:00 am inside.

The New Tuesday Evening Youth Group – Beginning on November 4th we shall be starting our new youth group for all young people in secondary school. These evening will be social, games orientated, and fun. They begin at 8:00 PM and will finish at 10:00 PM. If participants can only come for part of that time they are still welcome. Young people can bring their friends and participants do not need to be church attenders.  Ann, Emma and Blair will be leading.

Worship on Sunday November 16th….We are all going to Hamilton! On that day, as part of our commitment to do more with Hamilton Memorial, we are going to their church for morning worship at 10:30 AM. We hope that this will be a really well attended and excellent service. There will be no church that morning at TwPG. If you need a ride, please speak to an elder.

Liverpool District Representative Synod needs YOU to attend the next Methodist Synod Meeting on November 17th, 7:30 pm at Old Roan Methodist Church, Altway, Liverpool, L10 2LQ. The only item on the agenda is Mapping the Way Forward and it requires your contribution to the discussion. This meeting is open to everyone. It’s purpose is threefold:  to consider how we can make full use of the energy and resources God has given us, to determine the direction and shape of future circuits and to agree proposals for the April Synod. You will find copies of the document, Mapping The Way Forward, in the vestibule.

The King is Coming!  On November 23rd, from 3:00 pm to 5 pm, at Prenton Methodist Church there will be a special Party for children and young people. There will be crafts, puppets and singing so it should be loads of fun. There will also be a programme for youths 11+ and, in keeping with the party spirit, everyone is invited to come dressed for a party!

Special Advent Family Service at Hamilton – On November 30th (the first Sunday of Advent) at 3:00 pm there will be a special family service at Hamilton Memorial. Ann Bedford has been meeting with a group of people planning this event and it sounds like it will be really good. Hamilton people have been wonderful about supporting our events at TwPG so one would hope that we can support them at this special service. Ann tells us that there will be congregational participation in a group sketch. So, why not  go along  and take up your part?

Christmas Party December 7th – The Christmas Party is almost upon us. This party is for young and old alike. Last year, we got a really good turn out from the Toddler’s Group families but we did not get very many people from our own congregation and this was a pity. We hope more will come this year. Bring along something for the Faith Tea and join in the celebration. Blair’s puppets, all excited about it, are working on their parts right now. Santa has assured us that he will be make time for that night in his busy schedule and there will be some carols and prayers. It will be aimed at the children but it is for all of us and we hope that everyone will come out for it. Emma will be leading us. See elsewhere in this magazine for more details.

Christmas Memorial Service December 14th at 6:30 PM - With Christmas approaching, many people will be feeling the joy and the excitement of the season. However, for those who have, in the past few years, suffered a bereavement, Christmas may also be coloured by a sense of loss. On December the 14th, we will be having our fifth annual Christmas Memorial Service. It will be for anyone who wants, at the beginning of Advent, to remember and give thanks for the lives of loved ones who have passed on. This will be an opportunity to mourn the lives of beloved friends who are no longer with us, to feel God’s love in the midst of our pain, to give thanks for what was and to accept what will be. We hope to have some special singers and the climax of the service will be when we light candles in memory of particular loved ones. No offering will be taken and afterwards coffee, tea and goodies will be served. Join us for an evening of remembrance and thanksgiving.

The Gift Service December 21st at 10:30 am – Our Gift service this year will be led by Colin Vickers. The Charity, to which we will be donating our gifts, will be the National Children’s Home. Special envelopes will be given out for the couple of Sundays before and then hung on the Church Christmas tree during the service.

Carol Service December 21st at 6:30 pm– there will be a Carol Service, organised and led by the choir on the evening of December 21st at 6:30 pm. They will need participants, so if you would like to sing or play or read on that evening, please speak to Marion Hamilton or Helen Scott. Coffee and mince pies will follow.

A Walk through Bethlehem December 23rd beginning at 6:30 PM -  Some of you will remember when we did this two years ago. The idea is to capture some of the magic of what Bethlehem might have been like all those years ago. So, our children and young people (with a few of us older people helping) will be doing various sketches at various stations in the church. Groups of about fifteen people at a time will be led through the stations, which will include the Bethlehem Market Scene, the No Room at the Inn Scene and the Nativity scene, about every twenty minutes. When you have been through all the stations, you will be taken to the Session Room where there will be Bethlehem refreshments! You will need to sign up so that we can arrange our groups of fifteen at given starting times. A list will be put in the Vestibule towards the end of November.

Christmas Eve and Christmas Day Special Services– We are really excited about our Christmas Services this year. Tranmere, Charing Cross and Trinity with Palm Grove are all hosting one each and members and friends are invited to all three.

On December 24th, at 5:30 pm, Tranmere Methodist will be hosting its Family Christingle Service.

Later on that night at 11:30pm at Charing Cross there will be a midnight Communion Service.

Then, on Christmas Day, at 10:30am, all three congregations are invited to a Family Service at Trinity with Palm Grove.

The New Year’s Covenant Service – Our Covenant Service this year will take place at 10:30am on January 11th. This will be a time for recommitting ourselves to Christ and to the mission to which he calls us.

A Special New Year service for all Wirral Methodists at TwPG January 11th – At 7:00pm on January 11th we will be having evening worship in the sanctuary with lots of Methodist visitors. This is a special service to welcome in the New Year and look forward to new ways of working in Wirral.

New Evening Service Arrangements beginning in February

The Worship Committee has agreed to try an exciting new approach to evening worship beginning in February.

From that point on the first Sunday of the month will be a Film Night. All films will be of Christian interest and we hope that there may be time to have a cup of tea and a short discussion after each one. They will begin at 6:30 pm and take place in the Cabin. Ros Bowhay has agreed to one of the organisers but wonders whether there is some other film lover who would help her. Is there anyone interested?

On the second Sunday of each month there will be a lecture and discussion on some topic of current interest. Lectures will take place in the Session Room beginning at 6:30pm and will also be refreshed by tea and coffee. Blair has agreed to arrange these evenings and hopes to have speakers on a wide range of interesting topics.

The third Sunday evening of each month will continue to be our Café Worship night likewise arranged by Blair.

Finally, the fourth Sunday evening will for be something called,  Music, Talent and Prayer. These evenings will be a regular opportunity to share our talents with one another. Whatever your talent is, this will be a place to give thanks to God for it and share it with others. Singing, dancing, playing a musical instrument, reading a poem, showing off your knitting or carpentry, even telling a joke or a story are all possibilities. The idea will be to make a connection between our gifts and the God who has given them to us. Starting at 6:30 pm in the Session Room, Helen Renner has agreed to arrange these nights. So, speak to her if you have something you’d like to share.

On those months when there is a fifth Sunday, we will continue to take part in Churches Together Services.
